WHINFIELD, A.H.  (c.1863-1917) – slide maker, all 14 slides

Notes

The slide images are photographed, presumably by A.H. Whinfield, from the cut-and-paste composite illustrations (credited there to Messrs R. Thiele & Co.) in a short story in Harmsworth's Magazine of August 1899. Whinfield made two copies of each image, shown here as 'set 1' and 'set 2'.

The premise of the story is that subsidence and rising river levels have flooded London, with the result that all transport is by water and buildings and other city features have been renamed in Italian, as shown in the slide titles. The narrator turns out to have been dreaming while anaesthesised in a dentist's chair.
